Painted

I finally finished my gourd. I am putting it on this page since the first pic is here. I think it turned out pretty good. I now have an entire bowl of fruit and veggies on my dining room table.

Generating Ideas

I haven't posted anything for so long but I've just been so busy with school. I have been posting many things to my school website - student work, etc. Web pages take so much time.
I have been researching lots of new ideas for our handmade books in my natural fibers class. Making paper and the many things you can do with it is probably one of my favorite projects in this class (although, you can't really compare it to batik). Anyway, I have found so many great books about the subject. I think I spend more time reading others' books about it than I do creating my own art! But, as all of you know, even though we make art, we still enjoy the work of others!
Generally, we just bind a book with our paper but I do think I may have my students create some kind of art book this time. The only problem with that is getting them to really think it through and bring objects to class. But, we'll see.
Hope you are all out their creating!

Posts

I have been posting to my sculpture blog lately.
Although I am busy footing (turning) my thrown pots, I have not done anything special with them - as of yet - but will probably post those eventually on the pottery blog.
This page will probably not see much in the way of posts for awhile.

School

Guess I will write a short note to all who like to look.
I really do plan to add artwork to my blog but I will have to find the time to get some done. I do have a pottery piece almost completed-as a demo, of course, for my classes-but I will get a pic of it and post it soon. I have also completed a small, clay sculpture of two radishes so could probably post those, as well.
I have been trying to keep up on the blogs of others so have been enjoying all of the knew artwork and posts. Thanks for sharing.

Tired

School has officially started and I am tired. But then, I always am on the first few days of school. This year the students came back on Tuesday - usually they come back on a Thursday - and the longer beginning week is getting to most of us. But we'll make it through! :)
Sadly, I probably won't be posting much in the way of art, at least not until I am actually doing something as a demo. So, I may write a few times and then post a few times, but not steadily as before.
Keep watching......

The Girls

Color Mixing

I love to mix colors-I think that is one of my favorite lessons in teaching painting. I don't normally paint much with acrylics accept when teaching it but the three small paintings I have posted recently were all done with inexpensive Van Gogh acrylics. What I especially liked about doing those paintings was the challenge of mixing the primary colors to get the color I wanted-my set only consists of magenta, cyan, yellow, black and white.

School Starting

I haven't had much time to do art these past days, although I am working on a portrait pencil drawing of a couple of young girls. They are the daughters of a fellow church member and cancer survivor. I may post that some time in the near future.

Our school is starting and I have been busy readying myself and my classroom for the big day. I love my students and so look forward to seeing them all - again, for those I have taught before and, for the first time, many new, aspiring artists. It is always a thrill to meet my classes and begin our journey.

For those of you who happen to watch for new posts, I will try to get something on within the next week or so. I do so enjoy creating my own work and it has been great fun being just the artist for the space of a few weeks. Unfortunately, I am already missing it now that I no longer have my free time. Back to teacher/artist.

Life Cycle

I didn't draw a sketch yesterday—I decided to paint instead. This piece is from a photograph I took out in my driveway-my neighbor's flowers. This one particularly caught my eye because it had a bud, a full bloom, and a dead bloom all in one picture.

"Castle of Dreams"

Pastel pencils are wonderful for detail although you need to select them carefully-they are NOT all the same. And, as we all know, the paper makes a difference, too. This is from my first love-illustration.
